Albuquerque Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center
Saving Lives and Families
SEE WHAT OUR VALUED PATIENTS SAY
Our Albuquerque Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center is a unique addiction treatment program built around healing and rebuilding the family. With the beautiful turquoise skies and the red-painted hills of the gorgeous South Sandia Peak Mountains, our clients can find the serenity and peace needed for lasting recovery.
Our patients participate in a 12-Step Alternative program with additional psychotherapy, depending on their personal needs. Each individual's treatment is tailored to promote long-lasting recovery.
Stepping away from the traditional 12-step system still allows for the holistic spiritual recovery that most of our patients find therapeutic. The wide spaces and the mystique of the Southwest lend a feeling of openness and self-reflection that we encourage in our clients.
At Shadow Mountain, we utilize evidence-based treatment with an underlying holistic approach. Our program is carefully customized to each patient to ensure they have access to high-quality care that works around family and career obligations. With both morning and evening sessions, patients can find a time that works for them.
Individualized Treatment Under the Turquoise Skies of Albuquerque
We all have different backgrounds, upbringings, and stresses. Furthermore, everyone with an addiction has their own unique story that needs individualized treatment. We aim to offer the best, specialized care possible while our clients are busy with their family, job, or school.
Albuquerque is a modern city where you can see the traditional native pueblo buildings sitting alongside the new modern buildings in the midst of this growing metropolis. This unique perspective gives our clients the ability to consider the old versus new. They are able to see how keeping the core of your identity while experiencing change can be good.
At our Albuquerque Outpatient Treatment Center, we are acutely aware that everyone needs a different treatment plan. By focusing heavily on evidenced-based cognitive therapies in a non-12-step setting, we can help our patients become more at ease with change and find their core personal identity. This helps to build a solid foundation for lasting recovery.
With multiple pathways to recovery that work differently for different people, Shadow Mountain is committed to finding the path that works best for each client that comes to our facility. We know our clients have other responsibilities like family, work and school, so we want to make finding recovery as easy as possible.
Shadow Mountain Albuquerque Outpatient believes in individualized addiction treatment because recovery is not one size fits all. We have:
- A unique addiction treatment center that offers MAT evaluations, alternative to 12-step programming, and numerous cognitive therapies.
- A comfortable addiction treatment program where clients feel safe and secure as we work through difficult issues.
- A helpful drug rehab center to assist our patients in finding lasting recovery while they have a job and family to come home to.
Numbers Don’t Lie, Our Dual Diagnosis Center is First-class!
Almost half of those struggling with addiction have co-occurring mental conditions such as depression or anxiety. These conditions exacerbate an addiction, and in many cases, not knowing how to cope with them is what triggered the addiction in the first place.
The other half of people looking for help with substance abuse still have mental health struggles even if they don’t have an official diagnosis. Regular life is full of stressors, like work. School, and family, and trying to heal from addiction comes with unique mental, emotional, and physical challenges.
Due to this, Shadow Mountain Recovery provides dual diagnosis treatment, meaning that we have psychologists and psychiatrists on our regular staff, and ensure that underlying mental health issues are thoroughly treated.
Treating underlying mental health issues ensures recovery is more likely to be successful. As seen in our industry-leading program completion rates, our dual diagnosis focus also empowers our clients to graduate from the full program, even if they’ve had issues chronically relapsing in the past.
Among the 267 clients discharged between January 31, 2019, and January 31, 2020, a total of 90% across the various facilities successfully completed treatment. Every center had at least 85% successful completion.
These challenges require professional mental health care in order to make lasting progress. Shadow Mountain Recovery's Albuquerque Outpatient keeps psychologists and psychiatrists on staff for just this reason.
We treat each of our clients for not only their addiction but the underlying causes of the addiction as well. This approach increases the chance of long-term recovery and decreases the chance of relapse. We have:
- Numerous options are available for clients accessing helpful mental health services, including group therapy for additional support.
- Individual therapy is included in our tailored mental health services to detect underlying causes for addiction.
- Top of the line therapy options, including EMDR, is included in affordable mental health services to help clients recover from past trauma.
- Our unique mental health services also include psychiatric evaluations with Master’s Level clinicians to help heal from addiction.
In a rocky red clay environment, with arid brushland as far as the eye can see, the landscape may appear to some as a wasteland, but in truth, many plants and animals make their home under the painted skies.
This is evidence of the resilience that inhabits every one of us.
Our clients can pull from the environment that surrounds them, and realize that they too, have the resilience to not only live but flourish in any surroundings.

Our High-Quality Albuquerque Alcoholism Treatment Programming
Custom care plans and individualized treatments are not attainable in every treatment center, so Shadow Mountain Albuquerque really stands apart, especially for our alcoholism treatment programs.
Many people come to us because they’ve tried round after round of 12-Step treatment to no avail. When that path doesn’t work, you need to find something that does, which is why our Albuquerque Outpatient Treatment Center focuses on 12-Step alternative programming using only evidence-based methods.
While standard 12-Step facilitation treatment for alcoholism, and narcotics treatment variations have been successful for many, the faith-based approach does not work for everyone. That is why we take a more spiritual approach that is all-inclusive. Many of our clients are able to connect with the mystique and spirituality that helps define the Southwest.
Alternatives to 12-step programs that we offer:
- Dual-diagnosis treatment included in our affordable alcoholism treatment program.
- Helpful alcoholism treatment protocols, such as an evaluation for MAT efficacy.
- Founded nearly a decade ago, we are one of the most experienced alcohol rehab providers in Albuquerque.
Multiple Levels of Care to Meet Your Needs
Outpatient Drug Rehab Center
Recovery is a process, one we’re ready to support you through every step of the way. Outpatient treatment is a level of care suited for those who are leaving inpatient and transitioning to recovering outside of a daily program, but it can also benefit those who can begin with outpatient care.
Our individual assessments help us determine what level of care addresses your recovery needs. Outpatient allows you to sleep at home, work your regular hours, and visit Shadow Mountain Albuquerque for your treatment, usually two to three times a week.
Outpatient is perfect for someone who is continuing treatment after enrolling and completing inpatient treatment, but can potentially be where treatment begins. During outpatient care you would visit for group therapy and individual therapy, each person will have unique needs, as always.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Shadow Mountain’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive 2–3 week program. We provide structure and sobriety support five days a week for six hours a day at our 7011 Prospect Place building in uptown Albuquerque.
Our program utilizes process support groups, psychosocial skills development, expressive arts, yoga acupuncture, hypnotherapy, and community building. We aim to provide a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment to promote and maintain recovery.
Our Location - Near South Sandia Peak
The Albuquerque Outpatient Treatment Center is near the beautiful South Sandia Peak Mountains that will instantly give you a feeling of tranquility in a relaxed environment.

The relaxing mountain atmosphere is just what some of our clients need to start their journey to recovery.
But jobs aren’t always the only stressors. We are also home to the University of New Mexico and the Southwest University of Visual Arts.
